Scuba Diving in the Seychelles With
a generous weather system Seychelles has numerous islands all within
close proximity to each other providing excellent diving for
novices through to advanced divers.
Best diving conditions are
between March & May and October & November although other times
are acceptable where specific sites are chosen that have protection
from prevailling winds.
The islands of Mahe, Praslin and La
Digue have excellent dive sites with qualified dive centres. Smaller
islands such as Denis, Bird, Desroches, Fregate and North also have
dive centres.
What are you likely to see?
Due
to the numerous islands, reefs and atolls, you are likely to see a
vast array of fish species from the tiniest of clownfish to
magnificent Whale Sharks. Seychelles is an absolute treasure chest of
colourful marine life, coral formations and underwater features.
Where are the Dive sites?
Mahe
Island boasts up to 25 sites with 12 suitable for novices. Baie Ternay,
on the North West tip of Mahe is also a National Marine Park and a good
snorkelling area. Ennerdale Wreck lying in 20/30 metres is a
favourite for both Intermediate and Advanced divers,
Praslin & La Digue Island
Only 15 minutes flying time from Mahe Island,with a minimum of 10 dive sites to chose from to suit all levels of ability.
Desroches, Denis and Bird Island
These small island atolls offer excellent diving with a wide choice of dive sites.
Desroches Island, some 250km from the main island of Mahe, the island has a fully
equipped PADI centre with Nitrox facilities. Excellent diving and
tuition facilities.
Accommodation is from a selection of Luxury Suites and 4 bedroom Villas, with oodles of facilities to suite the whole family.
Denis Island, 30 minute light aircraft flight from Mahe with a small dive centre offering diving excursions to nearby sites. Accommodation is provided in beach side chalets that are deligthfully charming and well appointed.
Bird Island, 30 minute flight from Mahe. Very much low key on this delightfully simple and friendly island.
